Across the Empty Quarter to the coast of Jiddah, the first hydrogen-powered truck made history at the recently completed Dakar Rally.

“One of the goals of Aramco’s sponsorship of Gaussin’s hydrogen truck is to develop hydrogen vehicle technologies,” says Abdulhadi Almustadi, a nonmetallic materials engineer at Aramco’s LAB7. “Among the joint projects between Gaussin and Aramco’s LAB7 is to reduce the weight of vehicles using nonmetallic materials developed by Aramco and exploring alternative hydrogen technologies such as solid hydrogen.”

“The goals of Aramco’s sponsorship of the first hydrogen-fuels race truck include developing projects with Gaussin relating to self-driving cars and remote-controlled vehicles with LAB7,” adds Ali Baokbah, an autonomous systems engineer at LAB7.

Our journey continues to develop hydrogen as a lower-carbon fuel.
