Hundreds of Aramcons, contractors benefit from Diabetes Awareness Campaign in Riyadh

The health of those who work for Aramco and their families has long been a core value of the company.

Recently, the Riyadh Office Services Division (OSD) conducted a four-day Diabetes Awareness Campaign in coordination with the Saudi Charitable Associated of Diabetes (SCAD). The campaign targeted Aramco employees and contractors in several locations, including:

• King Khalid International Airport area
• Riyadh Refinery area
• Najd area
• Takhaussusi Office Complex .

With the support and efforts of eight volunteers from Riyadh OSD, the campaign proved successful, educating the public while raising awareness about diabetes.

Campaign visitors learned the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and were advised about symptoms, treatments, and prevention. They also learned about the risk factors of diabetes and effective ways to lower their risk, including changing their lifestyle, exercising, and eating healthy. The campaign provided tools and knowledge on managing diabetes and the effects of lifestyle and daily routine as well as informing visitors of ways they can enhance their lives while living with the disease. 

The campaign attracted more than 400 visitors, who got tested for diabetes. The medical team was able to detect diabetes in 50 people, of which four had been previously unaware that they had diabetes. 

Also, SCAD distributed 85 blood glucose monitoring devices to people who are diabetic, at risk, or have a diabetic family member. The post-event survey revealed a 99% visitor satisfaction rate, with comments praising the event for “outstanding efforts” and “awesome execution.”
