Pioneering Spirit

In 1933, geologists Bert Miller and Krug Henry, along with engineer Karl Twitchell, arrived at a wide plateau beside Jabal Umm al-Rous.

They set up three small tents to serve as the first field base for the exploration teams.

These tents became the first foundation that contributed to building the first oil well in the Kingdom’s history. In November 1934, supervisor Walter Haenggi began working on the first drilling rig.

The rig was set up to drill Dammam Well No. 1, marking the beginning of drill and oil exploration.

And this is how Dhahran was born from three small tents.
