Ten years ago, the environmental protection team at Aramco created a 31-square-kilometer biodiversity protection area to the east of the Asir Mountains.
Welcome to the Abha Biodiversity Protection Area.
The Abha Biodiversity Protection Area is not only a sanctuary for regionally important plants and animals.
Since 2015, biological surveys have revealed a blossoming of biodiversity in the area.
It's estimated that there are upwards of 138 plant species, 66 bird species, and 25 mammal species.
Being situated in one of the world's biodiversity hotspots, is not only what makes this place unique.
Careful management by the environmental protection team at Aramco has allowed nature to flourish, creating the right conditions for diverse plant life and abundant animal life, including some of Saudi Arabia's rarest and most precious species.
