Pioneering Spirit
LAB7, the venture building arm of Aramco, wins for SafaSun self-cleaning solar panels and B2Code building code compliance checker.
LAB7, the venture building arm of Aramco, won two 2025 Edison Best New Product Awards™ — often referred to as the Oscars of Innovation.
The Edison Awards are one of the most prestigious accolades honoring excellence in new product and service development globally and has previously recognized global leaders such as Google, IBM, Adobe, MIT Media Lab, and Dow Chemical. This year, SafaSun and B2Code (developed by LAB7), were selected among more than 4,000 global applicants, winning two Edison Awards for developing self-cleaning solar panels and a building codes compliance checker, respectively.
SafaSun is a self-cleaning technology for solar panels that is water-free and mechanical free (through an electrodynamic layer on top of the solar panel).
B2Code is a building codes compliance checker, an AI-based solution to automate the review process of engineering drawings against engineering standards (implemented on top of engineering software).
These achievements are a confirmation of LAB7's venture building approach to support startups through co-development, specialized infrastructure, market opportunities, and startup funding including access to valuable networks, such as other organizations within the National Champions value chain.
The National Champions value chain in Aramco has a proven track record of successful programs that have elevated the startup ecosystem in the Kingdom. One key program of the National Champions is LAB7. LAB7 is designed as a venture-building engine where disruptive products, bold entrepreneurs through a strategic collaboration can accelerate product development, launch high-impact startups, and unlock transformative value across industries.
— Jamil J. Al-Bagawi, senior vice president of National Champions
“This collaborative approach offers entrepreneurs strategic advantages to elevate their startups to be technology gamechangers ensuring that together we can win as a team, creating national champions with a global impact,” Al-Bagawi added.
This success will only push LAB7 forward by honing its unique position as a venture builder.
