Aramco earns 11 Green World Awards

Aramco recently received 11 prizes at the Green World Awards 2023.

The ceremony, which was held recently in Miami, was organized by The Green Organization, an independent, international, nonprofit, nonpolitical environment group.

Since 1994, the event — which is open to anyone in commerce, industry, local, regional, or national government; ministries, environment departments, and government agencies — has been dedicated to recognizing, rewarding, and promoting environmental best practices around the world.

The Green Organization also publishes an annual book that is a reference on the best environmental and sustainability practices. Winners are honored by the planting of 100 trees in collaboration with the United Nations and invited to a ceremony in the U.K. Houses of Parliament.

Success for Aramco

Aramco’s Process and Control Systems Department (P&CSD), Project Management (PM), and Northern Area Oil Operations (NAOO) all took home prizes from the awards ceremony.

In total, the company won four gold awards and seven silver awards.

The gold winners included a regeneration award for Tanajib Gas Plant (TGP) Eco-Park for its initiative to maximize the efficient use of excess treated wastewater generated from temporary construction facilities, and conversion of it into an environmentally friendly product for developing plantations.

There was also a gold sustainability award which recognized PM’s effort to promote creative sustainable practices in the Abu Ali Fish Hatchery. The initiative strives to ensure the long-term viability of the natural marine fishery by promoting sustainable fish aquaculture practices and reduce the impact of fishing on the environment.

A silver prize was awarded to SPARK’s (King Salman Energy City) Dry Port project for carbon reduction in the oil industry. This was for promoting sustainable transportation practices and reducing carbon emissions through the establishment of a project control center and the adoption of smart solutions to monitor carbon emissions during construction.

Another silver award for carbon reduction in the oil industry was awarded for PM’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the production of concrete in the Maritime Yard Development Projects Department.

Fourth Industrial Revolution Center

Elsewhere, the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center (4IRC), which is part of Engineering Services, won five global awards for sustainability solutions. This was the highest number amongst participating organizations from various industries.

These solutions, which included Combined Heat and Power Optimization Solution (CHPs), Smart Flare Solution (SFS) and Flare Monitoring Solution (FMS), were developed in the 4IRC — a 2,500 square meter area dedicated to innovation and exploration of cutting-edge technology.

The hub looks to capitalize on the knowledge of subject matter experts with data access, and availability of the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual-reality capabilities, and 3D printing.

Walid A. Al-Naeem, P&CSD director, said, “P&CSD has embarked on a digital transformation journey that is at the core of the department’s operation today.

The 4IRC is a state-of-the-art center when it comes to advanced digital technology, that continues to thrive with unique sustainability initiatives contributing to the corporate net-zero aspirations.
— Walid A. Al-Neem

“Our vision of the 4IRC being a best in class center of excellence for digital and sustainability solutions is being realized, as can be seen from this international recognition.”
