Our Unconventional Resources Program commercializes the Kingdom’s untapped gas fields to meet long-term domestic energy needs.
The program focuses on producing gas from shale rock and porous sandstone reservoirs in the North Arabia, South Ghawar, and Jafurah fields. Commercialization of unconventional gas fields contributes to the Kingdom’s economic growth by supplying gas for:
- Electric power generation
- Water desalination
- Steel production
while providing raw materials such as ethane for the local petrochemicals industry.
