It's a Hit: Double awards win for Energy Radio

Just five months after rebranding and relaunching, Aramco’s Energy Radio has won its first international awards.

On April 18 in Las Vegas, the New York Radio Awards Storytellers Gala recognized Energy Radio with a bronze award and a finalist award.

Now in its 65th year, the prestigious awards program recognizes radio excellence from across the globe and is judged by an international grand jury.

Both awards are for the new station sound of 91.4 Energy Radio 1 — Saudi’s Number One Hit Music Station, which is produced entirely here at Aramco’s Media Production Division (MPD) by Ayman Shukair, with voice over contributions from 101.4 Energy Radio 2 Music beyond the mainstream presenter Aziza ‘Ninyaz’ Majdi, among others.

The Finalist Award is for “Station Imaging” and the Bronze Award for a new weekend dance music show called Pure Energy, which airs every Thursday and Friday evening at 8 p.m.

MPD manager Osama Alkadi said: “This is a very exciting time for Aramco’s radio stations, to be honored with international awards so soon after rebranding and relaunching both stations with brand new line ups is very rewarding.

We’re proud to be serving the Eastern Province with live and local content every day and have many more exciting projects in the pipeline, including the launch of our brand new Energy Radio KSA app, which will include both Energy Radio 1 and 2, plus a new set of specialist music stations which we’re calling “Energy Radio X” that will feature 10 uninterrupted genre-specific stations, such as Rock, Jazz, Chill, World, Workout, and others.

Head of Radio Broadcasting Jon Kirby said: “We’ve had nothing but great feedback from our listeners since we made the big changes in November, but to receive international recognition with such prestigious awards so early on confirms that we’re delivering world standard radio here in Saudi Arabia, with a great team of passionate radio people.”

MPD’s Shukair added: “It’s incredible — this is the first radio award I’ve ever been part of. It’s a first for our stations and maybe even for Saudi — a very proud moment indeed and a great team effort.”
