Abdullah S. Al-Suwailem appointed as a senior vice president
Al-Suwailem was appointed as senior vice president and president of SATORP.
Abdullah S. Al-Suwailem has been appointed as a senior vice president and president and CEO for the Saudi Aramco Total Refining and Petrochemical (SATORP), effective Jan. 1, 2023. Al-Suwailem has more than 32 years of experience in the Refining & Petrochemical business and has held different managerial and executive positions in Aramco, its affiliates, and joint ventures.
In 2021, he was assigned as a general manager at the Aramco Overseas Company (AOC), leading the restoration and startup activities of the Pengerang Refining & Petrochemical (PrefChem) complex jointly owned by Aramco and Petronas in Malaysia.
At the same time, Al-Suwailem was serving as a board member of both PrefChem, and the Yanbu’ Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (YASREF).
In 2016, he spent four years as a general manager of the Jazan Refinery Project to develop and operate an industrial city with 400 MBD full conversion refinery and a 3.9 gigawatt power generation complex. In 2012, he served for four years as president and CEO of Petro Rabigh.
Additionally, Al-Suwailem served for three years as a board member at both the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association, and the Saudi Petrochemical Manufacturers Association. In 2009, he served for three years as the managing director of AOC in Hong Kong to manage all Aramco joint ventures in Asia.
Al-Suwailem is the founder and the first CEO of the Aramco Asia Company in China as well as the chairman of both Aramco Asia in Japan and Korea. During the period of 2002–2009, he led the Aramco Commercial Team that negotiated and developed three major refining and petrochemical joint ventures, namely, Petro Rabigh with Sumitomo Chemical, SATORP with Total, and YASREF with Sinopec.
Al-Suwailem has extensive experience in managing public listed companies, and ensuring sustainability and governance policy according to capital market authority rules and regulations.
He holds a B.S. degree in applied chemical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
