There was overconfidence that alternative energy can replace or displace hydrocarbons immediately. 

Basically, there was no plan B.

So, there was a mistaken belief and a flare narrative that alternative energy can significantly meet the world’s demand, but in doing so, attention to energy security was neglected.

Any plan, strategy, and action should not ignore sustainability and carbon neutrality but also should ensure transition plans are practical and realistic at the same time. 

Energy security and sustainability can and should coexist.

We need to continue investing conventional energy like oil and gas. Also, we need to reduce emissions from oil and gas, and also work on raising their efficiency. 

We should work on increasing the contribution of new energy, like hydrogen, as much as practically possible, complementing our conventional energy.
