Memory Lane: New electrical power, new dental clinic, new theater, and a new office in India
Twenty years ago, the Aramco Oil Exhibit opened the Kingdom's first 3-D high-definition video theater.
Aramco's long history is marked with a series of firsts. Here's a few pulled from the headlines of The Arabian Sun and Flare over the years.
Four new diesel engine generator sets will be added to the powerhouse of the Dhahran Electric Supply Company, Dammam, increasing the kilowatt capacity of the power plant from a present maximum of 1,850 KW to a potential capacity of 7,050 KW, R.L. Cundall, Arab Development, announced.
Three of the 65-ton engines were moved to the powerhouse site on Oct. 1. The fourth was moved earlier.
The engines will be placed on permanent foundations, and a steel building, fabricated in Italy, will be erected to house them. Power from the new generators is expected to be on line in the spring in 1958.
The Dhahran Power Company, a private industry owned by Saudi stockholders, has been in business since 1952.
New Dental Clinic at Al-Mana
On Sept. 20, the Emir of al-Khobar, His Excellency Sa’ud ibn ‘Abd Allah ash-Shuway’ir, cut the ribbon and officially opened the new al-Mana Dental Clinic — the first multi-chair dental clinic in the Eastern Province to be equipped with its own X-ray room and dental laboratory.
The new clinic, which was established with the technical and financial assistance of Aramco, includes three dental operatories, an X-ray room, a dental laboratory, a business office and a waiting room. It is equipped with the latest design dental equipment from Japan and Germany.
