F1 in Schools champion to be crowned today

The Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 concludes today at Silverstone’s Wing International Conference and Exhibition Centre outside of London, with the crowing of the 17th World Champions.

With 53 teams competing, the Aramco F1® in Schools World Finals 2022 is much bigger than the F1® grid, but with up to six students in each of the F1® in Schools teams, their "paddock" is a lot smaller — as are the cars, with each F1® in Schools team creating an F1® car just 17 cm long and 50g in weight.

The 53 teams from 25 countries are competing for the World Champions crown and coveted university scholarships from UCL Engineering with 34 teams on site in Silverstone to experience the event ‘in person’ and 19 teams participating virtually.

The five-day program opened with a visit to Formula Student and the Silverstone Interactive Museum. The opening ceremony provided a prelude  to three days of judging, with enterprise and engineering portfolio submissions, presentations and, of course, racing, including the nail-biting Knock-out challenge — with the F1® in Schools cars reaching speeds of up to 80kmh on the official F1® in Schools 20 meter racetrack.

The crowning of the World Champions today (July 14, 2022) is the climax of the event.

Virtual or in person, a solid hit for STEM

Andrew Denford, Founder and CEO, F1® in Schools, said, “We’re so excited to be welcoming teams back to attend a World Finals event. The competitors will get the chance to savor the atmosphere of a Grand Prix venue and share the experience with their fellow F1 in Schools teams from around the world who have all won places at the World Finals. We’re putting together a schedule of activities, talks and events that will keep the students busy, whether they’re with us on screen or in person!”

Talal H. Al-Marri, general manager of Public Affairs, Aramco said, “Aramco is proud to serve as title sponsor of the Aramco F1 in Schools World Finals, as part of our commitment to support STEM growth in new and exciting ways.”

We see in these bright young students the very same passion for engineering excellence and innovation that drives our work. As they think outside the box to build a better race car, they inspire us with their ingenuity. In turn, we aim to inspire them to use their talents to change the world.
— Talal H. Al-Marri
