1948 Railroad Built

Oil royalties financed the construction of a government railroad that connected the seaport town of Dammam to the inland capital of Riyadh. In 1948, Saudi workers stacked countless railroad ties by hand in a storage yard until they were used to build the 644 kilometer line.
