UPDATE: Second COVID-19 jab available at JHAH for those 12-18 years old, or 50 or older

Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) is now offering the second dose (AstraZeneca) vaccine shots to people 50 years or older who have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at JHAH. It is also taking appointments of youngsters between the ages of 12 and 18.

How can I book my second dose appointment?

JHAH will schedule your second dose COVID-19 vaccination appointment and you will receive an SMS with your appointment time. Your appointment will also be viewable in MyChart. If you don’t receive an SMS after one week, please call 800-305-4444 to schedule your second dose appointment.

Do I need the second dose of my COVID-19 vaccine?

Yes. If you are being vaccinated with either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, you need both doses of these two-dose vaccines. However, one dose is needed for those who were infected with COVID-19 six months after infection.

It is important for your protection against COVID-19 that you receive both doses. Receiving only one may not adequately prepare your immune system to fight the virus if you are exposed to it.

When will I be protected from contracting COVID-19?

According to the Saudi Ministry of Health, you are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines. If you don’t meet these requirements, you are not fully vaccinated.

Can I still transmit the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 if I am vaccinated?

Yes, it is possible. You may still transmit COVID-19 to others, even if you are vaccinated. Receiving a COVID-19 vaccination helps prevent you from getting sick if you contract the coronavirus that causes the disease.
