Photographic Memory: At sunrise and sunset, ye old canon
As was the custom of the day, a canon was used to mark sunrise and sunset during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Behind the Dhahran As-Salamah Mosque in the Saudi Camp, this old Turkish cannon is pictured in February 1965. The cannon was used during the month of Ramadan. Small cloth bags of gunpowder and salt were charged off, making a loud blast at sunrise and sunset during the month of fasting.
