The COVID-19 pandemic has made collaborative action on addressing climate change and delivering on a low-carbon future simultaneously more critical and more difficult in 2020, the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI) said this week in releasing its 2020 Progress Report.

“In 2020, we have made progress on reducing methane emissions, launched a carbon intensity target, started new initiatives in low-carbon transport, and added two new Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage hubs to our KickStarter initiative, while progressing the others,” OGCI said on its web site.

Aramco is a key participant and contributor in the OGCI, a voluntary CEO-led initiative that strives to accelerate the industry response to climate change. Representing almost 30% of global oil and gas production, OGCI member companies work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their operations and leverage their collective strength to support the transition to a low carbon future.

OGCI’s members invest over $7 billion annually in low carbon-technologies and research and development.
